Join your friends from the Community of Christ Historic Sites Foundation this fall as we trace our faith community’s roots to people from all over the world. Immerse yourself in history as we journey through eight U.S. states and Canada exploring the stories behind church members from England, Italy, Canada, Ireland, Japan, Nigeria, and more. Learn about the connections to far away places like French Polynesia and the Holy Land and gain an appreciation for the many contributions made by early church members who immigrated to the United States throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. Our 10-day tour includes historic stops at significant places of church history as well as Frankenmuth (Michigan), Toronto and Niagara Falls (Canada), and more.
Highlights of the Global Family History Tour
Join Barb Walden and Peter Smith as they travel to a number of Community of Christ heritage sites this October 6-15, 2025. Experience church history through the lens of early converts who relocated to the United States looking for a better life living among their fellow church members in gathered communities throughout the Midwest. This tour will explore the stories of those who helped create the historic communities of Kirtland, Nauvoo, Plano, and Lamoni. In addition, we will explore the historical context and various Latter Day Saint movements from which the early church members journeyed, many of them Latter Day Seekers, looking for refuge within the Reorganization.
Our journey together will embrace church history AND make a little church history of our own! While exploring Community of Christ's heritage in western Iowa and eastern Nebraska, tour guests will visit the historic Forest Lawn Cemetery where John Avondet, and his wife, Marie Defoury Avondet are buried in unmarked graves. This October's tour will recognize the contribution of the Avondet family by unveiling and dedicating grave markers (for the first time) over the burial sites. We hope you will join us for this historic day!
In addition to the rich heritage explored throughout the 10-day journey, tour guests will experience breathtaking autumn views, delicious foods, and delightful fellowship as they make their way across eight states including: Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, New York, and Pennsylvania. Our travel itinerary will also include two days visiting Canada, our beautiful neighbor to the north, with stops at Niagara Falls and Toronto. The tour will draw to a close in Kirtland, Ohio, with a communion service in the lower court of the Kirtland Temple. This is a journey you don't want to miss!
Seating is limited, so be sure to reserve your seat today!
