February 17 Book Discussion (One Night Only)
Return to the City of Joseph: Modern Mormonism's Contest for the Soul of Nauvoo with Scott Esplin Stakeholders in Nauvoo demonstrate significant attention to both the memory and the future of the City of Joseph. Members and leaders from the Community of Christ, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and unaffiliated local residents share strong interests in the city and have, at times, both contested and cooperated in its interpretation. This presentation examines the modern history of Nauvoo, how faith and community groups have shaped its understanding, and what those interactions reveal about religious memory in rural America today. The title of his presentation is, "Capturing a City’s Soul: Contesting and Cooperating about the Past to Craft Nauvoo’s Future." Join us for the discussion on Thursday, February 17 @ 7:00 p.m. (Central Time). Click the button below for additional details. |
