Highlights of the Women's History Tour
Tour guests will experience each of the Community of Christ historic sites through the lens of the women who helped create the historic communities of Kirtland, Nauvoo, Plano, and Lamoni. While visiting Emma Hale Smith's birthplace in Harmony, PA, we will hear about how her childhood experiences impacted the type of leader she was to become in the early church. Our tour of the historic properties and landscapes in Palmyra, NY, will reveal the role of the female members in preparing the first missionaries and helping establish the church.
In addition to experiencing women's history in the early Community of Christ, tour guests will also gain a greater understanding of women's contributions to the larger story of the United States. In celebration of the 100th anniversary of women's right to vote, we will visit a number of historic sites related to the road to equality for all women. Significant sites include the Wesleyan Chapel and Women's Rights National Historic Park, Susan B. Anthony home, and the Harriet Tubman home. The tour will also explore the lives of female religious leaders such as Ellen G. White of the Seventh Day Adventist denomination and Ann Lee of the Shakers. The stories behind these remarkable women will be explored in detail as we visit the historic Seventh Day Adventist Village in Battle Creek, Michigan, and Hancock Shaker Village in Amherst, Massachusetts.
In addition to the rich heritage of women in Community of Christ, guests will experience breathtaking autumn views, delicious foods, and delightful fellowship as they make their way across eight states.
