Story Behind the Clinic:
In the 1950s, Dr. John Blumenschein was a successful obstetrician living in Independence, Missouri, with his wife, Marion, and their five children. However, John and Marian felt there was something more they could be doing to help those in need. In 1957, the Blumenscheins moved to Honduras and founded a small medical clinic, a school for primary children, and a Sunday school program.
This period in John and Marian's life was both an exciting and sorrowful time. Shortly after their arrival in Honduras, John began to suffer from cancer. Despite his terminal illness, his commitment to helping alleviate the suffering of those around him continued strong. He assisted patients and inspired others to carry on Christ's ministry for years to come.
In 1958, John passed away leaving behind Marian and their five children. Before his passing, he encouraged Marian to stay in Honduras and to continue ministering to those in need. Marian agreed, and with the help of others, the La Buena Fe Foundation was established to continue the work Dr. Blumenschein had begun. For years, the La Buena Fe Clinic operated without official church support, relying on the generosity of others who devoted weeks, months, and even years of their lives committed to continuing the work that John and Marian started.
Today, the La Buena Fe clicnic continues to provide medical assistance year round to those who would not have access to any form of health care. The staff at the clinic includes a local medical team and volunteers from all over the world. For decades, the dedicated staff has continued to supply medicine and physician support for patients suffereing from a variety of illnesses that range from cancer to the common cold.
The La Buena Fe Clinic's original building now serves as a residence for volunteer medical staff and guests.
